What stays on your device
Appearance, likes, motion preferences, and named studies are stored in this browser’s local storage. They never leave the machine unless you choose to create an account and save a tuning.
Accounts
Saving a tuning to the cloud uses an email and password. That account holds your email and the configurations you keep. Session cookies exist only so you stay signed in.
Likes
Anyone can like a pattern. Your like is remembered locally. A count is stored for the catalog ranking. Rate limits use a hashed address, not a raw IP, and that hash is not kept as a profile.
Analytics
GART uses PostHog to see how the site is used, so it can be made better: which pages are visited, which buttons are pressed, which patterns are exported, and any errors. Some visits may be recorded as session replays, with anything typed into a field hidden. PostHog sets its own identifier in this browser, and the data is held by PostHog in the United States. Requests go through this site’s own address rather than straight to PostHog.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, none of this is recorded. Notes sent with the feedback form, and the email you add to one, are kept in PostHog with the visit they came from.
What we do not do
- No advertising networks or advertising trackers.
- No sale or sharing of personal data.
- No analytics beyond PostHog, described above.
