Helix Lantern
A sphere sliced into floating rings, each strung with circles that crowd to one side. The crowded edges climb the globe as a glowing spiral.
About this shape
Sections of a sphere strung on a spherical helix

Each ring is a level section of a sphere, filled with circles that shrink from the full section to a hole set against one side. Every circle touches the same point, so the lines pack tight there and spread apart opposite it, which is where the glow comes from. That point turns steadily as the rings rise, tracing a helix on the sphere.
Seen in perspective from low down, the bottom rings close to slivers while the top ones open into ellipses. Motion turns the helix through a full revolution.
